argaurum
- It works by comparing metals' conductivity, i.e., an ability of metal to conduct electricity. Coins made from the same metal alloy have the same conductivity. If alloys are different, their respective conductivity will differ and the Argaurum device will blink red.
- It does not give a definitive answer, however. Nothing is definitive, ever. The Argarum is a stupid device and smart humans go extra miles to deceive you. It is just one more way to uncover a possible deception - along with the usual look-'n-feel, weight, size, luster, etc., etc... We believe it can be the first line of your defense: always ready and available with immediate results.
- As any implement made by humans, the device has limitations. They are caused by a necessity to measure the same thing, namely, conductivity for different physical objects. The conductivity is a capricious thing: it depends on metal composition, the alloy's internal phase structure, the position of the coin against the sensor, the coin's shape, and, as everything in this Universe, on temperature. In order to get most reliable results it is recommended to compare the same type of coins placed directly on device's sensors without capsules, sleeves, or any other obstructions.
This is how to work it:
- Insert batteries. The Argaurum ships with no batteries, so you need to insert them, there is a latched door on the bottom.
- Put the trusted coin on one end of the device and push the button. You should see red light blinking - you are comparing a coin with an empty space, so they must be different.
- Put the coin to test on the other end of the device and push the button again. If the coins are made from the same alloy, the green light will blink. If not, you will see yellow or red.
- You are done! Get the next coin to test and repeat the previous step as many times as needed.
